As a Reading Specialist, I have the priviledge of working with teachers and students to ensure that our school continues to have excellent instruction in literacy. There is a committee at Swans Creek that is comprised of representatives for all grade levels as well as Special Education teachers and English as a Second Language teachers. The Literacy Committee works to communicate to faculty areas of concern and celebrate successes. I work in classrooms as well as with small groups and individuals who need extra support in reading and writing.
Class Announcements Home School Reading LogOur Home School Reading program has begun!
This program emphasizes the crtical need for students to read at home for at least 20 minutes every night. Studies have shown that reading outside of school for at least 20 minutes is related to standardized test scores of 70 percent or better. Parents are asked to sign the block in the calendar for each day your child reads for at least 20 minutes. Please make reading a part of your family culture.
